Fontana, CA:  First Step Independent Living Program in Fontana, will host its first “Art Through My Eyes” art exhibit, Monday, August 22 through Tuesday, August 30, 2011 from 11 am – 5 pm at the Koehler Art Gallery, home of the Fontana Art Association, at 8536 Sierra Avenue in Fontana. The exhibit will showcase the artistic talents of adults with developmental disabilities from approximately 20 Adult Day Programs locally.

“The purpose of the “Art Through My Eyes” exhibit, is to showcase the creative energy the artists have to offer their communities as well as to inform the community about First Step Independent Living Program in Fontana and the services that are available to them,” said Donna Gimm, Assistant Regional Director of First Step Independent Living Program in Fontana. “It’s a wonderful show with a wide range of creative works.”

“The exhibit is important to the individuals participating because they have special skills and this is a great way for them to come out, display their skills and let the community know that they are special and their art reflects that,” said Gimm.

Gimm also encourages the community to come out and view the art exhibit and cast their vote for their favorite art piece. Votes will be tallied after the exhibit and winners will be announced.
